“Leavers” is an Australian high-school graduation tradition that takes place following final exams in late November. During Leavers high-school graduates who have completed final exams take week-long holidays (typically unaccompanied by parents or guardians) as a rite of passage. In Western Australia (WA) Leavers Week is primarily hosted in Dunsborough and on Rottnest Island. The Western Australian Police’s Community Engagement & Youth Policing Division in collaboration with Not-For-Profits, Community and Youth organisations hold a number of events and conduct tactical operations to ensure that Leavers Week is a safe and enjoyable experience for young Western Australian high-school graduates and the towns and island that host them.
The Leavers mobile application will provide the following information relating to the town where Leavers Week is being held:
• Helplines and useful phone numbers
• Event List
• Bus timetables
• Event Maps
• Hints and tips for staying safe
In addition to maintaining a presence at Leavers Week, the Community Engagement & Youth Policing Division also uses social media to engage with their target high-school graduate audience and communicate important event information and their campaign message.
